This April 26th, Athens is at the heart of the Olympic spirit as the Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony unfolds at the legendary Panathenaic Stadium, also known as the Kallimarmaro. This is your chance to be part of a momentous occasion, free and open to the public!
The culmination of a journey
The ceremony marks the grand finale of the Olympic Torch Relay in Greece. Imagine the thrill – for eleven days, the flame, kindled by the sun itself at Ancient Olympia, has traveled across the country for over 5,000 kilometers, carried by more than 600 torchbearers. Witnessing this handover ceremony is your chance to celebrate the spirit of the Games and the unity it fosters.
A star-studded send-off
The ceremony promises to be a memorable spectacle. Get there early (entry closes at 6 pm) to get the vibe, and then prepare to be dazzled by the legendary Nana Mouskouri. This global pop icon will perform the French and Greek national anthems, conducted by the acclaimed composer Dimitris Papadimitriou.

The flame sets sail
After the handover, the Olympic Flame embarks on its next chapter. Aboard the historic three-masted ship Belem, it will journey from Piraeus to Marseille, carrying the Olympic spirit to France. The flame will finally arrive at its destination – Paris – to ignite the passion of the 2024 Olympic Games!
